Welcome to Our Blog!

About a year ago, we decided we were going to sell everything we had, buy a camper, throw our three cats and ferret into it and drive off into the sunset. We were going to shirk the modern lifestyle and all its cumbersome trappings by living minimally and traveling full time.
Family and friends were informed; Jamie put in his notice at work; stuff was sold; there were well wishes from said family and friends and a feeling of excitement was expressed by all that we planned to visit during our travels.
Then we were hit with a very large, very unexpected medical bill which put that dream on hold for at least another year.
Yep… Americans.
We were forced to cancel our grandiose plans, go back to the drawing board, and resume our boring day-to-day life as usual until we figured things out.
One random Friday, as I swept our back porch of snow and Jamie used the cheapest and only shovel we had to dig out our driveway from the first of many Southeast Michigan Winter storms (we sold our snow blower and good snow shovels back in September), the thought of 365 more days of the normal grind really started to get to us. We had planned to be out West by this time and couldn’t imagine again living this dream vicariously through Instagrammers and YouTubers for that long.
It all seemed so unfair.
Well, we realized we didn’t have to go about it that way. Yes, the entire game plan had changed, but the game wasn’t lost. The only thing stopping us from our dream lifestyle were the limiting thoughts we had put on ourselves.
There are untold amounts of things to do and places to see! All we need to do is step outside our door.
So we did. And, we found even traveling locally opened our eyes to some disheartening things that are going on all around us: pollution, stressed natural resources, exhausted and sick people. We decided to push toward our dream in a way that would help instead of hurt, and inspire and help others to do the same.
We are so excited to share our change in lifestyle and the lessons we learn along the way with you. It is our hope that our story and this blog gives you the resources and inspiration you need to find your own way to a simpler and clean lifestyle!
